Now that social distancing has become part of our lives, GCI wants to make sure Alaskans are supported, connected, and staying healthy. It’s an important effort, as Alaska’s suicide rate is more than twice the national average. The rate is even higher in rural Alaska.
The GCI Suicide Prevention Fund supports organizations across Alaska to reduce rates of suicide and promote mental wellness and strengthened communities.
Every year, GCI contributes $100,000 to nonprofits to support their work on prevention and mental health awareness. This year, we’re also adding a new way to encourage connections.
Participants are challenged to complete a 5K run or walk, and participate in wellness activities. Everyone who completes the run or walk and the wellness challenges will be entered to win a tech prize from GCI.
At the end of the challenge, we’ll give away three prizes:
Together, we can support our fellow Alaskans and help reduce the rate of suicides in our state. We hope you’ll join us.
