GCI has filed an application with the Regulatory Commission of Alaska to discontinue cable TV/video service by late spring 2025. While our priority is to keep the service running smoothly for you until then, we do encourage current GCI TV customers to transition to other TV services at their earliest convenience. Download our step-by-step guide.
Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions:
Do I need to do anything now?
Yes, please choose a new TV service provider at your earliest convenience. This service change will not occur until late spring, but we wanted to give you plenty of time to make your transition.
If you’d prefer to end your Yukon TV service now, simply let us know, and we’ll take care of it for you. Our customer care team is here for you at 800-800-4800.
Will GCI provide a TV service replacement?
No, we’ll no longer offer TV products as of mid-2025. However, GCI Internet remains essential for enjoying content on other streaming services and applications. The streaming device you’re using for Yukon TV can easily access popular apps like Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, or Paramount+, ensuring you can continue to enjoy all your favorite networks and shows.
Do you have any TV service recommendations?
Some of the most popular streaming apps and services are YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV, which provide a full range of live and local entertainment options, much like your current TV service.
Another option is Xumo Play, a streaming service that includes 350 free channels of content. You can access Xumo Play on most major streaming media devices. GCI now also carries the Xumo Stream Box device which is available free with GCI Internet plans.*
Satellite television may also be an option in some areas.
What are my options to continue watching local channels?
If you’re looking for your favorite local channels, a couple of popular options are YouTube TV or Hulu + Live TV.

Do I need to return my TV equipment?
Yukon TV Customers: The device you're using to watch Yukon TV will also give you access to other streaming providers. If you took advantage of our free media streaming device offer, it is yours to keep at no charge so long as you either retain GCI Internet service or are outside of the 24-month promotional period.*
Choice TV Customers: Please return your cable boxes to GCI when your TV service is disconnected. Cable boxes are unable to support streaming needs, however, GCI Internet plans include a free media streaming device,* which can be used to access major streaming services.
What do I need to start a new service like Hulu + Live TV or YouTube TV?
To switch to a new streaming provider, you’ll need:
- High-speed internet
- A smart TV or media streaming device (like Apple TV, Amazon Fire Cube, or EVO PRO)
- Valid email for signup
The next step is to visit the provider’s site and choose your new plan.
Yukon TV customers: Your experience with Yukon TV already has you prepared with everything you’ll need to continue your streaming journey with a new provider. You’ll just need to set up a subscription with your chosen provider.
Does choosing a new TV provider change my data usage?
Unlike traditional TV, streaming relies on your internet connection, so leaving the TV on when you're not actively watching can use up data unnecessarily. To avoid exceeding your data allowance if your home internet plan does not include unlimited usage, we recommend turning off streaming services when they’re not in use and keeping track of your data usage through the MyGCI app.
Yukon TV customers: For customers without an unlimited GCI Internet plan, please note that streaming with Yukon TV does not appear in your plan’s included high-speed data usage report. All other streaming services contribute to your data usage. Learn more about data usage.
Will current Yukon TV service issues be resolved?
Technicians will continue to maintain Yukon TV to ensure its stability, though we will be focusing our efforts on essential support as we transition. While we won’t be implementing new improvements or addressing non-critical issues, our priority remains to keep the service running smoothly for you. We encourage you to explore alternative options to keep you connected to the content you love, with the experience you deserve.
