Setting Up Your Mailbox

The first time you use your GCI voicemail, follow the tutorial voice prompts, which will take you through the steps to set up your new mailbox. 

Depending on where you live, you will have to dial a specific voicemail system number:

Once you reach the voicemail system, perform the following steps:

  1. Enter your mailbox number.
    • If you have voicemail attached to your home phone, your mailbox number will be your 10-digit home phone number.
    • If you have a standalone voicemail, your 10-digit mailbox number was given to you at the time you signed up for GCI voicemail.
  2. Press the # key.
  3. Enter your temporary password (this is on the letter you received from GCI or if needed please contact 1-800-800-4800)
  4. Follow the voice prompts to:
    • Create your new personal password (PIN – between 6 to 15 digits, cannot be 000000 or 123456)
    • Record your name and personal greeting

Accessing Your Mailbox

Calling from your own phone:

  1. Dial the GCI Voicemail System for the area where you live.
  2. Dial the voicemail shortcut: *98 
  3. Listen for your recorded name.
  4. Enter your password followed by the # key.

Calling from another phone:

  1. Dial the GCI Voicemail System for your area.
  2. Enter your 10 digit mailbox number wait for the prompt.
  3. Enter the # key then your password followed by the # key.

Calling to your own phone number:

  1. Dial your own 10 digit home phone number.
  2. When your greeting starts, Press the # key.
  3. Enter your password follow by the # key.

Access your stand-alone mailbox:

  1. Dial the GCI Voicemail System for your area.
  2. Enter your 10 digit mailbox number followed by the # key.
  3. Enter your password followed by the # key.
      OR
  1. Dial your stand-alone phone number.
  2. As soon as the message starts press the # key.
  3. Enter your password followed by the # key.

Menu Shortcuts

  1. To listen to your saved messages, press 1
  2. To Record and forward a voice message, press 2
  3. To change your personal options, press 4
  4. For more information about your mailbox, press 0
  5. To recover messages, press 9 (Available only when a message is deleted and you have not yet left your mailbox)

Voicemail Self Care

GCI customers can manage their voicemail box and voicemail messages online. 

1. Open a browser and navigate to http://voicemail.gci.com

2. Enter your 10 digit phone number. Then enter your access code (PIN) for your voicemail. (Note: the web access code and phone access code are the same.)
3. Press Enter or the Log In button.
4. After logging in you will see features for a basic voicemail box.  Available features will depend on the type of voicemail box you have on your account.

Changing your Voicemail PIN

For a standard voicemail box, you can change your PIN by calling into the GCI Voicemail System or through the Voicemail Self-Care Online portal.

Due to recent security enhancement updates, a standalone voicemail box (SAVM) PIN can only be changed through the Voicemail Self-Care Online Portal.

Change Voicemail PIN through GCI Voicemail System:

  1. Dial the GCI Voicemail System for the area where you live. Dial the voicemail shortcut: *98 or the Local Access Number
  2. Listen for your recorded name.
  3. Enter your password, followed by the # key.
  4. Press to change personal options
  5. Press to change your PIN

Update Voicemail PIN through Self-Care Portal

  1. Enter your 10-digit phone number. Then enter your access code (PIN) for your voicemail. (Note: the web access code and phone access code are the same)
  2. Press Enter or the Log In button
  3. After logging in, you will see features for a basic voicemail box
  4. Select the PIN option under Settings on the left-hand side.
  5. Enter your new PIN, then enter it again to confirm it
  6. Select the Submit button
