Kick-off to celebrate lightning-fast speeds planned at Soldotna store
ANCHORAGE, Alaska—Residents in Kenai and Soldotna will have access to internet speeds 20 times faster than the national average when GCI launches its 1 GIG red service in the area tomorrow.
Kenai and Soldotna join Anchorage, Fairbanks, North Pole, Fort Greely, Juneau, Palmer and Wasilla as the eighth and ninth Alaska communities to get access to GCI’s one-gigabit-per-second internet speeds through 1 GIG red. To celebrate, GCI is hosting a special community event on Friday, Feb. 17, from noon to 4 p.m. at its Soldotna store, located at 44661 Sterling Highway.
“With 1 GIG red, our Kenai and Soldotna customers can access some of the fastest speeds in the nation,” said GCI Vice President of South Central and Western Region Operations Mary Hart. “It’s an event worth celebrating and we look forward to marking the occasion with our customers this Friday at the GCI store in Soldotna.”
GCI 1 GIG red speeds are up to 20 times faster than the current national average. When the Kenai and Soldotna service launches Friday, GCI 1 GIG red customers in the area will immediately have access to 1 GIG internet at no added cost. In order to achieve these lightning-fast speeds, customers must be using an upgraded modem and router that can handle 1 GIG. Customers who need to upgrade their modem can visit the GCI stores in Soldotna or Kenai, or pick one up at the customer appreciation event on Friday. GCI is also offering on-site support at the event for customers who need to swap out cable modems.
The celebration at the Soldotna store will include coffee for the public and GCI giveaways, such as a 1 GIG router, a Roku Ultra Streaming device and a GCI gift basket.
