GCI waives fees for calls, texts to Guatemala in response to deadly volcanic eruption

Calls and texts to the area can be placed for free through June 15.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – In response to the deadly eruption of Guatemala’s Fuego volcano, GCI will waive all fees associated with voice calls and texts to the country through June 15.

“We know many of our worried customers will be trying to connect with family and friends in the wake of tragedy,” said Paul Landes, senior vice president, Consumer Services. “GCI will ensure that our customers can check on friends and family in Guatemala without having to be concerned about the cost.”

GCI customers can make voice calls and texts to Guatemala free of charge through June 15.

Free service is for valid calls made from landlines and wireless devices. Customers may need to contact GCI to enable international dialing before calling or texting family in Guatemala.
