GCI increases investment in cloud services in Alaska

August 1, 2015

Anchorage, Alaska – Alaska’s leading communications provider, General Communication, Inc. (“GCI”)(NASDAQ:GNCMA), boosted its investment in cloud services with the purchase of Network Business Systems.

Cloud services enable businesses to store and process data remotely, increasing efficiency, reliability and performance and eliminating the need to maintain and upgrade hardware and software in-house. The acquisition of NBS enhances GCI’s capability to meet the current and future technology needs of its Alaska businesses.

“We strive to bring our business customers state-of-the-art IT options at the best value, said Greg Pearce, vice president of business services for GCI. “More and more businesses are realizing that cloud services are the best option for data storage, processing and security.”

The purchase was closed on Aug. 6 and GCI has offered all NBS employees positions.

“This transaction will add additional expertise to GCI’s growing cloud services team,” said Pearce. “It enhances our ability to deliver innovative technology solutions that improve how workplaces function and helps Alaska businesses focus on their core businesses.”

Network Business Systems brings to GCI a team that has provided IT solutions for Alaska businesses while securing partnerships with major players in the technology industry, including NetApp, Microsoft, Cisco and HP for nearly 30 years.

GCI is the largest Alaska-based and operated integrated communications provider offering voice, data and video services statewide. Learn more about GCI at www.gci.com/about
