VoLTE delivers improved coverage, higher voice quality to GCI customers
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – GCI customers in Anchorage are experiencing improved wireless service throughout the city with the introduction of GCI’s new Voice over LTE (VoLTE) service. GCI’s VoLTE service delivers higher-quality voice and data service to wireless customers in Anchorage and enables seamless transitions between Voice over Wi-Fi and the cellular network.
“By moving voice and data to the same radio layer, customers will now be able to enjoy LTE data speeds while on a voice call,” said Josh Lonn, vice president, GCI Wireless Products. “And since the phone no longer has to switch between two technologies, our customers will notice that their calls go through much more quickly.”
GCI customers on the newest flagship devices, including the Apple iPhone 6 and newer, will experience the benefits of VoLTE. GCI has planned updates scheduled for capable Android-powered phones, where possible, and will be launching several new phones with VoLTE capability this year. GCI will continue to expand its VoLTE footprint in 2019.
