FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GCI CLOSES $225 MILLION SENIOR BANK LOAN
ANCHORAGE, AK -- GCI (NASDAQ:GNCMA) today said it has closed a $225 million bank facility to refinance debt totaling approximately $180 million. The new facility, lead by Credit Lyonnais, will refinance existing senior debt of approximately $120 million and $60 million of debt outstanding for the company's Alaska United Fiber System. The $225 million loan is a two-year facility priced at LIBOR plus 650 basis points.
"We are very pleased to complete the refinancing of our senior debt," said Ron Duncan, GCI president. "Closing this facility in the face of both challenging telecom and credit markets is a significant accomplishment. We are pleased by the confidence placed in us by both our lenders and our shareholders."
"The facility provides the company with approximately $40 million of additional liquidity and should allow us to make capital expenditures of approximately $55 million next year. This level of investment will be sufficient to execute the company's business plan and maintain our growth."
"The availability of this capital is particularly important since our principal competitor has said that it is unwilling to make necessary investments in its Alaska telephone network. Our access to capital and our willingness to invest will assure that Alaskans' communication requirements are met and that competition in Alaska continues to provide the best possible service to consumers. It also distinguishes GCI as the only company committed to the continued deployment of new technology throughout Alaska."
Further details about the refinancing will be available with the filing of the company's S.E.C. Form 10-Q on November 14, 2002. The company will respond to investor questions on its quarterly conference call scheduled for November 7, 2002.
GCI is the largest telecommunications provider in Alaska. The company provides local, wireless, and long distance telephone service, cable television, Internet and data communication. More information about the company can be found at www.gci.com.
