GCI ANNOUNCES FREE CABLE MODEM SERVICE
GCI customers now eligible for free LiteSpeed Internet
ANCHORAGE, AK -- GCI announced today that it is
offering new and current customers free LiteSpeed cable modem
Internet service when they sign up for certain GCI services.
Customers who want more speed can sign up for LiteSpeed Plus as
well as any of GCI's existing high-speed Hypernet broadband
packages.
"We want to make it easier than ever for dial-up customers to
enjoy the convenience of always-on connections at two to three
times their current access speed," said Terry Nidiffer, GCI
Internet general manager. "LiteSpeed is a great way to do that:
it's faster and customers can get it free."
LiteSpeed and LiteSpeed Plus use cable modems and are designed
for dial-up customers who want more Internet speed and greater
convenience. Cable modems transmit data reliably at a much faster
rate than dial-up connections and do not tie up the telephone line.
In addition, the "always on" connectivity of cable modems do not
require the user to go through the time consuming process of
logging in.
Free LiteSpeed service is available to GCI customers who
subscribe to basic or higher GCI cable TV service, GCI local
telephone service (if available) and GCI's "Miles Ahead" long
distance plan. Customers participating in the free LiteSpeed
package will have their activation fee waived, access to one email
address and one gigabyte of included throughput per month, 64
kilobit per second access speed and 30 days of free 24x7 technical
support.
LiteSpeed Plus offers 128 kilobit per second access speed, 5MB
of web space, two email addresses, two gigabytes of included
throughput per month and unlimited 24x7 technical support.
LiteSpeed Plus is available for $24.99 per month with GCI long
distance.
For the speed thirsty, GCI offers additional cable modem
Internet packages with speeds up to 2.4 megabit per second.
GCI cable modem service is available to 91 percent of Alaskan
homes including Anchorage, Palmer/Wasilla, Fairbanks, Juneau,
Ketchikan, Wrangell, Petersburg, Sitka, Cordova, Valdez, Seward,
Homer, Kodiak, Kenai/Soldotna, Bethel and Nome. Petersburg and
Wrangell markets require Preferred cable TV service in order to
qualify for free LiteSpeed.
GCI (NASDAQ:GNCMA) is the largest Alaska-based and operated
integrated telecommunications provider and provides local,
wireless, and long distance service, cable television, Internet,
data communication and telecommunications outsourcing services
throughout Alaska. More information about the company can be found
